The Chevy Bolt had a terrific first year, selling 23,242 vehicles in the US and increasing sales in virtually every month of the year. It was the best selling fully electric car available in the country and serves as evidence that Detroit automakers can thrive in the electric car market and outperform individual Tesla models.
In a sense it is nevertheless a success for Tesla as well, indicating that the California automaker has played a key role in compelling automakers around the world to take the electric vehicle market seriously, to compete, and to help evolve the clean energy transportation business. Tesla’s stated company mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
